Mercedes started F1’s shortest-ever pre-season testing programme with a heavily disrupted first day. It lost 3 hours in the morning to a gearbox problem that came “out of nowhere” and then struggled to get the car handling well when it returned to the track in the afternoon in terrible sandstorm conditions.
