7 Reasons your company should not go public, number 4 will shock you.
Yes Buzzfeed went public last June and part of being a public company is that you have to release your financials every quarter.
BuzzFeed’s recent reports tell a grim story about the company’s growth and particular attention has been placed on Buzzfeed news, which is actually a very hard hitting and serious news organisation, complete with Pulitzer prizes to prove it.
The problem is that serious news is expensive to investigate and, doesn’t pay the bills like shitty clickbait articles filled with popup ads.
Not that those have been doing that well either.
Buzzfeed is dependant on Facebook to push their articles, but the declining user base of the social media giant has meant a declining viewership for Buzzfeed.
The lesson is, if your company is hitching its success to the success of another company, make sure that company is not Facebook.
